Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a structured, skills-based approach designed to help individuals manage overwhelming emotions, improve relationships, and build a life that feels meaningful and worth living.

Rather than focusing only on insight or past experiences, DBT teaches practical tools that clients can begin using right away—both in and outside of therapy. These tools are especially useful for people who feel emotionally sensitive, reactive, or stuck in patterns that cause distress but are hard to shift.

In our work together, we’ll explore up to four key DBT skill areas that support lasting change:

Mindfulness: Mindfulness teaches you how to observe your thoughts and emotions without judgment and stay grounded in the present moment. These skills form the foundation of all DBT work, helping you respond to life with greater clarity, steadiness, and intention.

Emotion Regulation: Emotion regulation skills help you better understand your emotional patterns and reduce the intensity of painful emotions over time. You'll learn how to identify what you’re feeling, why it matters, and how to shift toward more balanced and manageable states.

Distress Tolerance: These skills are focused on surviving emotional crises without making things worse. Distress tolerance offers concrete strategies for coping when life feels unbearable—so you can get through hard moments with dignity and self-respect.

Interpersonal Effectiveness: This module helps you navigate relationships with more confidence, assertiveness, and balance. You’ll learn how to ask for what you need, set healthy boundaries, and maintain self-respect even in conflict.
