As a body-oriented therapist who works with teens and adults, I have found that symptoms that bring people into therapy are often the result of an overwhelmed nervous system. This can happen suddenly or over time when we live through something that was too much, too fast or lasted too long (motor vehicle accidents, violence, loss and grief, repeated relational stressors, medical procedure trauma, etc).
Somatic Experiencing focuses on nervous system stabilization by combining cognitive and somatic approaches to treat and resolve the fight, flight, freeze stress responses that continue to replay after the stressor has passed. SE helps us to move toward resiliency, emotional flexibility and the capacity to hold the many facets of life.
I aim to provide a safe and supportive container to help gently renegotiate old emotional and physical strategies, and practice new ways of being with oneself, being with others, and being in the world.
